Dries Van Noten

Spring-Summer 2014 – The Dries Van Noten collection this season is very much inspired by floral patterns. These are designed in such a way that the fabrics look like tapestries, especially because of the colour and style. Although floral is heavily associated with Spring/Summer, the darker muted colours, contrast with this feeling slightly. There are more patterns as well, a lot of which are heavily inspired by William Morris, the art Nouveau period and the wallpapers and fabrics that he created. This is done by the large flowing lines and the complex and detailed flowers, birds and other objects from nature. The clothes themselves are very suitable for the season, there are a lot of shorts and sleeveless tops, combined with lighter weight jackets and t-shirts. Layering is very prevalent, especially when all of these layers use different patterns to create an interesting contrast.
