Manolo Blahnik to be honoured by the BFC
Manolo Blahnik is one of the most iconic footwear designers of our time. His designs are coveted by fashionistas worldwide, and worn by style icons on the pages of glossy magazines.
Manolo focused his design talent on footwear following the advice of Diane Vreeland, noted fashion journalist. After viewing a selection of the Spanish designers work she advised his to design only shoes. Shortly after in 1972 Ossie Clark invited Monolo to design the shoes for his catwalk show. The shoe designer’s success was instant as he went against the tide of chunky heels that were the fashion at the time, and instead launched designs of sleek, elegant stiletto heels.
On November 27th Manolo’s great contribution to the fashion industry will be honoured when he receives the Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Fashion Awards. The awards, commonly known as the ‘Oscars of the fashion industry’, celebrate the best of emerging talent in the British Fashion Industry.
This year’s event will be hosted by actress Gemma Arterton and Radio personality Nick Grimshaw and categories include New Establishment, British Style Award, Red Carpet, and the prestigious Designer of the Year. Attendees of the awards range from Influential industry leaders, designers, models and the media.
The Outstanding Achievement Award is one of highest accolades of the night and will be given in recognition of Manolo’s ‘extraordinary career and contribution to the British and global fashion industry’.
This won’t be Manolo’s first award from the British fashion Council, he was won British Fashion Awards Accessory Designer of the year in 1990, 1990 and 2003. Following his latest award Manolo will again be working with the British Fashion Council to collaborate on the creative brief for the London Fashion Week campaign.
