Managing Supermodel Schedules Across Global Fashion Weeks

Posted on

The last look of a Milan show can leave the runway in the early evening, and by the next afternoon the same model may be due in a fitting room in Paris. For the small group of faces booked by the biggest houses in both cities, traveling between fashion weeks requires careful planning.

Why the Milan-to-Paris Handover Leaves So Little Room

This season showed how compressed the changeover can be. The Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027 calendar ran from September 22 to 28, but the final day was given over to digital shows. Silvana Armani presented the closing show on Sunday morning, and Paris opened the following afternoon.

Paris then asks the most of its cast. The provisional FHCM calendar listed 68 runway shows over nine days, with Dior showing on the afternoon of September 29 and Louis Vuitton closing the week on October 6. A model in demand in both cities may walk several Milan shows and still need Paris fittings before the first major day.

Commercial flights between Milan and Paris are frequent, but they follow the airline’s timetable rather than the atelier’s. This is why agencies representing top-tier talent often arrange a private jet through a charter broker.

Planning Transit Windows Around Late Fittings

Fittings are where schedules usually break. Designers often keep garment choices open until the last moment, so a session booked for early evening can run well past midnight. One Milan show consultant, writing about the days before a runway, described final alterations still being worked through at 3am.

The departure time cannot be fixed until the house releases the model. Instead of booking a single flight, bookers build a transit window. This is an earliest and latest acceptable departure agreed in advance with the client in the next city. If a Milan fitting ends at 1am, the model flies after a few hours’ sleep. If it wraps early, she can leave that night.

The window protects the Paris client too. A casting director who knows a model will land by a set hour can confirm her with confidence rather than holding a replacement on standby.

How Agencies Arrange Flights Between Show Cities

Choosing the right airport can determine whether a model gets to her show on time. In Milan, Linate is the closer option for most show venues. Its business aviation terminal, Linate Prime, sits only a few miles from the city center. SEA Prime, which manages the terminal, opened a new wing in March 2026 with separate passenger flows and greater privacy.

In Paris, Le Bourget is dedicated to business aviation and is described by its operator, Groupe ADP, as the leading business airport in Europe.

There’s no shortage of commercial airports in Paris and Milan. But private terminals can completely change the rhythm of the day.

At some airports, passengers can arrive as little as 15 minutes before departure, after which they’re driven straight to the aircraft. For a model leaving a late show with hair and makeup still in place, this has a lot of benefits — for example, no security queue, less time spent waiting in line, and far less exposure to crowds in public areas.

Agencies may choose to work with a broker, who compares aircraft and operators for each leg. Brokers can be particularly helpful if an agency is moving more than one model. Two talents leaving the same Milan show for the same Paris casting can share a flight, while a

colleague released later keeps her own booking. Where timing is especially tight, the aircraft can be positioned in advance so it’s ready once the final walk ends.

On the ground, the same approach can be used to save time. Agencies can arrange for the car to wait outside the fitting studio, not the hotel, with the driver ready to go straight to the private terminal. Those details sound small, but at 2am they decide whether a model reaches Paris with time to rest before her first call.

Setting the Season Up Before It Starts

The smoothest handovers are agreed long before the first show. As options turn into confirmed bookings, agencies share each model’s fitting slots with the houses in both cities and flag conflicts early, when there is still time to move a session by a few hours.

Contingency plans can make a huge difference. A backup departure time or an alternative airport can help significantly if weather or air traffic restrictions delay a flight. It’s also important to consider how luggage will be transported, since models often travel between cities with everything they need for a week of shows.

Final Thoughts

The Fall/Winter 2027 womenswear shows return to Milan and Paris early next year, bringing the same rushed handover back onto the calendar. For agencies, the aim stays the same: deliver each model to her next fitting rested and on time. That way, her energy goes into the walk, not the journey.
