Sonia Rykiel Women Spring Summer 2016

“Les oiseaux de nuit”, meaning “night owl”, was the theme of Geraldo Da Conceicao’s show for his SS16 Sonia Rykiel collection. The collection was one of fluff and feathers, bright colours and prints, sequins and glitter, all designed in sultry, silhouette enhancing forms. Patchwork fur throws were worn on the shoulder over dramatic, floor sweeping gowns, while skirts made of tattered leather ribbons swished around the models’ legs. Sandals with embellishments and lashings of glitter and satiny straps were paired with fluttering skirts, while furry jackets were thrown on over the looks or carried.

Different textures and patterns create a rich, Vegas showgirl essence to the Sonia Rykiel collection, while garments shimmer as their sequins catch the light. Sheer faille was jaquarded with patterns, and Conceicao favoured Bardot style off the shoulder tops with thicker leotard style straps underneath. The showgirl theme continued on with the Rykiel girls’ make up: shimmering blue eyeshadow and sultry smoky eyes. The result was a sultry, overtly sexy 1920s aesthetic, with draped and loose fitting shapes.
