Alexander Wang

Spring-Summer 2014 – With rap music echoing out the front doors of Pier 94 NY, Wang created a graphic backdrop to illuminate his collection. Looming over the audience, who were tightly coordinated along what seemed a never-ending zigzagging path: was giant, white gridded scaffolding resembling king-sized Tetris blocks.

Breaking from his fundamental features of sporty style, Wang’s spring/summer 14 collection took an x-ray and laser focus. Pleated pinafold dresses; light argyle sweaters (with and without sleeves), leather mac’s and symmetrically, chained dresses came in black and white: two of the show’s main tones, were contrasted with provocative, menswear inspired pieces. Lilac shirts, cuffed, were heavily spilt down the front and teamed with shorts that resembled men’s boxes.

The standouts: Laser-cut leather on the gloves and dress bodices, lettering ALEXANDER WANG along the edges. A sheer sweatshirt labelled with the Parental Advisory across the bust and Wang’s eternal crush, Erin Wasson sealing the show.
