Spring-Summer 2013 – You can always trust Jean Paul Gaultier to create a collection with a powerful tale to tell. This time it was all about the pop stars of the Eighties who have influenced fashion; fashion and music being so synonymous. So, we saw Annie Lennox, Abba, Boy George, David Bowie, George Michael, Grace Jones, Madonna and Prince, the list seemed to be endless. It was theatrical, with Karlie Kloss transformed into Boy George and several Michael Jackson figures with their crotch stance at the ready. Though it was a homage to the stars, the clothing was equally impressive. There were excellent tailored suits with ultra low-rise waists and seductive jackets showing maximum cleavage. Dresses were showy with maxi-length ball gowns and lace numbers with ultra-tasseled hems. JPG’s signature style corsets came in abundance thanks to Madonna and a PVC star emblazoned catsuit lit up the catwalk thanks to Bowie. As ever, it was all about the drama.
