Spring-Summer 2012 – The smoky eyes said it all. It was a glossy collection from the glamour that is Gucci: think The Great Gatsby and you’re there. The palette was made of black, white and gold, with droplets of optical colours like blue and green. The glitzy and ritzy elements were ostensible from the cocktail dresses: in black and gold they infused the roaring twenties. Prominent were the gold Art-Deco inspired embellishment and fringing, as were the drop waist dresses which at times were lined with gold detailing, or an asymmetric hemline. There was also a nod to the seasons must have trend; the tight pleated skirt. Breaking the mould slightly, Frida Giannini played with animal prints too, the giraffe, the zebra and the leopard all featured. Jackets came cropped, collarless or emblazoned with gold-on-black embellishment. On trend and on chic.
