Chanel

Spring-Summer 2014 – Making a statement this season with a playful mash up between casual wear and Haute Couture was Karl Lagerfeld and his collection for Chanel.

Quite unlike previous Chanel Haute Couture shows the location and set design for this collection was relatively simplistic. Yet, creativity crept its way in through the varied colour palette and array of influences.

Sports luxe met high-fashion as couture gowns paired with sets of matching trainers and tweed dresses teamed up with elbow and knee pads in what felt like a mischievous effort to make couture more accessible.

Adding an old school, Hollywood glamour quality to the collection were the array of feathers, dreamy pastels, edgy metallics and 1920s style, intricate beading.

Capturing our attention with a truly exquisite series of gowns and a memorable effort to defy what we’d usually expect from a Haute Couture show, Chanel’s SS14 collection managed to remain both intriguing and desirable. Yet, with a mind like Karl Lagerfeld’s behind the collection, we expected as much.
