Zac Posen, best known for his namesake womenswear label, has been signed as the new creative director of women’s ready to wear and accessories at Brooks Brothers.

“I am truly honored and excited to be embarking on this incredible opportunity to take the Brooks Brothers Women’s brand into the future while respecting its deep, rich American heritage,” noted Posen.

The company was founded in 1818 and was the first to sell men’s ready-to-wear tailoring, launching their first women’s apparel as early as 1874, although it took until 1976 for Brooks Brothers to open a complete women’s department selling seasonal collections.

Alongside the main men’s, women’s and kids collections, the brand also boasts the recently launched youth-oriented Red Fleece line and the Thom Browne-designed Black Fleece line which was introduced in 2007.

After training at Parsons in New York City and London’s Central Saint Martins, Posen founded his own line in 2001 and has gone on to dress some of the most famous women in the world including First Lady Michelle Obama and actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Zac Posen’s first work for Brooks Brothers will debut with spring 2016 and will be available in the brand’s stores around the world and online.
