Victoria Beckham shows off the brand’s first shoe collection

It’s a big year for Victoria Beckham. The 40-year-old British designer is opening her first flagship store in London later this fall, a move she says “has inspired and pushed me to focus on the DNA of my brand more than ever.” And, at her New York Fashion Week show, held Sunday in The Big Apple, Beckham showed off a fresh collection that sits somewhere between the zeitgeist conjuring of fashion’s biggest names and the contemporary high street.

This is also the first time the designer has presented her own line of shoes, crafted in her own atelier in London. “Creating all elements of the collection under one roof enabled me to complete and strengthen the silhouette and this has been key in the design journey for me,” explained Beckham.

The styles stuck to the uniformish silhouettes and cuts of the clothes, and for those who remember Beckham for her career as a pop-star more than for her fashion inspiration, there’s a surprise… Most of the models wore flats, with pointed loafer-boots appearing with floral patterns and leopard print. There wasn’t a stiletto in sight, with the only height provided by chunky 70s-style platform sandals. The shoes should hit stores along with the rest of the Spring-Summer 2015 collection early next year.
