Stella McCartney collaborates with Internet artist Petra Cortright

Welcome to a world of warped webcam experiments in the latest video from Stella McCartney. Created for the brand by artist Petra Cortright (who also stars in the piece), the minute-long short, titled “Dot Warp With Door,” features a Pre-Fall 2014 outfit and some fun video trickery.

“I was instantly struck by Petra’s work, her effortless cool girl approach, she represents the next generation Stella girl to me in every way,” explained McCartney. “Her work is mind blowingly cool and she is the real deal.”

Born in 1986, the artist trained at Parsons in New York City and California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Cortright works across painting and new media, but it’s her video work that has attracted the attention of the internet, and now Stella McCartney herself. Her work has featured in exhibitions at the New Museum in New York, the Venice Biennale, the Biennale de Lyon and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

McCartney is just one of a number of designers to look to the contemporary art scene for campaigns as well as inspiration. At Kenzo, creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have regularly worked with artist Maurizio Cattelan and his Toilet Paper collaborators on advertising and other visual projects.
