Paris Modes TV’s Sophie de Champsavin on NYFW: a spirit of ‘freshness, lightness and optimism’

Posted on

What are the top trends from NYFW?
The return of a certain optimism from the designers in a season poised to be chic in powdery tones: pink and green (Derek Lam) and high-tech materials (Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera, Tory Burch).

The spotlight is on the body, as seen in bra tops worn with high-waisted pants or skirts (Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan).

Gingham is making a comeback, in a nod to the 60s (DVF, Altuzarra). Spring florals were also among the top prints, whether in a “peace & love” style (Anna Sui, Tommy Hilfiger) or in a more futuristic 3D version (Vera Wang, Carolina Herrera).

Star motifs also made an impression at Tommy Hilfiger and Diesel. Comfort is a watchword for this New York fashion week, as seen in urban sportswear (Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, Lacoste). We also observed a graphic note through the use of white and black (Hugo Boss, Public School, Narciso Rodriguez).

The winds of freshness, lightness and optimism are blowing in American-designed fashion. The same goes for beauty, with makeup that highlights sun-kissed skin and undone hair.

Which designer created the biggest buzz?
Hugo Boss, with Jason Wu’s second season for the Boss line, presented on the 54th storey of World Trade Center Tower No. 4 at Ground Zero on the eve of September 11; Thom Browne with his spectacular outfits; Jeremy Scott for his tie-up with Miley Cyrus. And the essential heavyweights: Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Alexander Wang… because New York wouldn’t be New York without them.
