Oscar de la Renta holds a one-off show in Singapore

Oscar de la Renta showed 60 looks at the one-off runway show, including dresses from the designer’s Autumn-Winter 2014 collection as well as some of his world famous bridal gowns.

The show by the fashion veteran and holder of the CFDA’s Lifetime Achievement Award closed the four-day Audi Fashion Festival, an international event now in its sixth year that features a mix of Asian designers and international stars. Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung also showed a collection during the festival, as did London-based Canadian rising star Thomas Tait.

Interestingly, de la Renta’s show wasn’t a usual ‘buyers and press’ event. The packed crowd of 600 was made up of fashion fans who’d managed to get their hands on the rare tickets, which went on sale to the public ahead of the event and sold out within hours. As fashion gets more democratic, and more international, will we see more of these kinds of shows? We expect so.
