Menswear trends for fall/winter: classic hues & sporty lines

Posted on

One of the big color themes for this season is a return to rich classic tones, from navy blue to dark green, burgundy and dark teal, all balanced with plenty of monochromes.

But it wasn’t just the color palette that was the key story: on the runway, designers from Galliano’s Bill Gaytten to Wooyoungmi blended sportswear seamlessly into their collections, with Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci working a luxury hip-hop and basketball theme.

This translates into plenty of minimalist luxury sweats in store, with lots of functional zippers on other pieces sitting alongside technical outerwear. Look to Hunter’s first runway collection (under new creative director Alasdhair Willis) for the trend, including a forest green down jacket for £360 (approx €450).

Need more inspiration? A long hooded jacket by H&M ($39.95) would go great with these minimalist joggers by Thom Browne (€340 at Mr Porter) which come with the designer’s three stripes. And for that zipped-up sportswear vibe, Tim Coppens has a sweatshirt (€519 at Matches) that could be ideal. The key for wearing these trends is to keep it simple and clean.
