Lanvin Confirms Bouchra Jarrar Hire

Lanvin has named Bouchra Jarrar the maison’s new artistic director of women’s collections, and she is set to begin the role this coming Monday. Jarrar comes to Lanvin with a plethora of experience, from her work at Balenciaga under Nicolas Ghesquière, to her time at Christian Lacroix Couture. The French designer presented her eponymous line in 2010, moving into haute couture in 2013.

Lanvin chief executive officer Michèle Huibon remarked in a statement made earlier today that, “Her timeless style is in keeping with the style and values of our company. Her talent, her high standards and her mastery of cuts and fabrics will bring a breath of freshness and modernity into the house, while respecting its soul as the oldest Paris couture house, a symbol of French elegance.”

Jarrar commented as well, expressing excitement at the opportunity to add her talent to the maison’s history: “It is a huge honour to continue promoting the Lanvin style, with designs created in the company’s ateliers by teams who possess extraordinary expertise. Joining Lanvin meets a desire to expend my creation to wider fields of expression. It is my intention to bring to Lanvin the harmony and consistency of a fashion designed for women, a fashion of our time.”

While her predecessor Alber Elbaz stood as head of both men and women’s collections, Jarrar will focus solely on the women’s line. Recently there has been an undeniable tumultuousness in the industry, between an exodus of design heads from a number of houses and companies, to the rapid change of fashion delivery and presentation. One might wonder whether delegating the creative power in smaller sections is a move to preserve the creative potential and nurture it over a long career, or perhaps to move in a similar direction other houses have gone, producing faster and more readily available fashion for a demanding consumer.
