Sonia Rykiel has announced a new creative director as part of an ongoing revitalization of the label. “The relaunch of the house is on the way and we are now accelerating,” said Sonia Rykiel chairman Jean-Marc Loubier.

Julie de Libran’s first runway showing will be the upcoming Spring-Summer 2015 collection set to be unveiled at Paris Fashion Week in September.

The Paris-based designer was creative director of women’s ready-to-wear at Louis Vuitton and studio director (under Marc Jacobs) from 2008 to 2014. Prior to that de Libran spent ten years at Italian luxury label Prada, where she was design director of the women’s ready-to-wear collections.

“Sonia Rykiel has always been part of my universe,” explained de Libran, praising the “confident, chic and smart woman” the designer helped to define and design for from the start of her label in 1968. The designer’s daughter Nathalie Rykiel in turn decribed de Libran as “an international woman and a talented one. A woman who enjoys dressing herself and designing for other women.”

The move means the departure of previous creative director, the Macau-born and Canada-raised designer Geraldo da Conceicao, with the brand thanking him for his committment.
