DSquared² to launch kid’s line for Spring 2014

Milan-based Dean and Dan Caten, the twin brothers and fashion designers, have made a name for themselves with their more risqué outfits. The designers’ latest catwalk collection wasn’t scared to show plenty of flesh, with leather trousers and micro-skirts going down the runway on baby-doll models. However, in an exciting twist, the Toronto-born fashion stars have just announced that they will be turning their talents to children’s clothing.

With their clothing worn by international celebrities including Cristiano Ronaldo, Madonna and Justin Timberlake, the Caten brothers have long been at the center of the mainstream fashion world, but this is the first time they will be working on children’s clothes. The new line of apparel and accessories is aimed at both boys and girls from newborns to 14-year-olds.

“Our customers have grown with us and we have accompanied many of them to the altar. Now their children are also in need of cool and fun outfits,” said the brothers, “with this junior line, we are finally…creating a total look for the entire family,” reported WWD.

Just like the main line, the kids’ clothes will be expected to feature plenty of the twins’ signature touches, including the Canadian red maple leaf.

With fans of their frisky fashion getting broody during the downturn, perhaps it’s a clever move. Still the shows should provide a contrast to some of the brand’s more extravagant performances. The DSquared² Spring-Summer 2012 menswear show in Milan saw Ukrainian boyband Kazaky take to the catwalk for a choreographed dance routine in leather trousers and high heels.

The clothes will be produced by Diesel boss Renzo Rosso’s Brave Kid company which also manufactures and distributes the John Galliano and Diesel junior lines. Available in Spring 2014, the clothes will appear in DSquared²’s flagships in Milan, Paris and Tokyo, as well as select department stores and luxury boutiques worldwide.

In 2009 the pair received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto. The multitalented brothers have also presented their own television and radio shows.
