Dior Resort 2015 mixes European and American influences

“America is a constant inspiration for me,” explained Simons. “The pop culture, the energy, the fluidity… there is just something so alive here. What I always like in America is that there is such a melting pot of styles.”

Unveiled at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York City with a mirrored and LED-packed set, Simon’s Cruise collection duly mixed the brand’s European heritage (exemplified by the silk scarf leitmotif) with classic American style. Firm couture-style constructions contrasting with playful and fluid silks were shown alongside patchwork furs, suede outerwear and handwoven coats. “I wanted an element of playfulness in powerful looks, it was an element of freedom coming into those looks,” he added.

Two more big runway shows for the Resort 2015 season are set to take place this month, with Chanel to show in Dubai on May 13, and Louis Vuitton at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco on May 17.
