David Koma heading to Mugler

Georgian-born and London-trained David Komakhidze, known as David Koma, is taking over the artistic direction of Thierry Mugler starting in January.

Koma will present his debut collection in June (Resort 2014), and will have his runway debut in September during the Spring/Summer 2015 shows in Paris.

Koma replaces Nicola Formichetti, who left his post at Mugler in April to take off with fellow Italian fashion visionary Renzo Rosso at Diesel.
“I am deeply honored to take up the role of Artistic Director at Mugler — a House for which I have the utmost admiration and respect,” Koma says. “For me, Mugler is the most extraordinary fashion house with an undeniably audacious heritage.”
Twenty-eight-year-old Koma studied at the famed Central Saint Martin’s fashion school in London, alma mater to Céline’s Phoebe Philo, Alexander McQueen and Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci, among many others.

It’s been a successful year for the Georgian designer, one in which he has designed exclusive versions of the HTC One Mini smartphone, and created on-stage looks for Beyoncé’s ‘”Mrs Carter” world tour, as well as presenting two well-received collections at London Fashion Week.
