Alexander Wang to Exit Balenciaga

Posted on

According to today’s reports, French fashion house Balenciaga and its parent company, Kering, have decided against renewing current creative director Alexander Wang’s contract.

Following on from rumours surfacing earlier on this month the company released a statement saying that “there are discussions between the designer and Balenciaga regarding the renewal of the contract”.  Former company director, Nicholas Ghesquiere remained 15 years at the brand, making Wang’s time at the company seeming comparatively short lived with his final collection set to be the forthcoming spring/summer 2016 show at Paris Fashion Week.

In regards to a replacement, Kering is said to be beginning the recruitment and is “open to considering a lesser-known, hidden talent for the plum post, emboldened by the positive feedback and outpouring of goodwill it had in promoting Gucci insider Alessandro Michele to succeed Frida Giannini at the helm of the Italian brand earlier this year”.
