Alexander McQueen ‘Savage Beauty’ exhibition coming to London

The V&A has had recent hits with “David Bowie is” and “Fashion in Motion” and the museum is currently showing “The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945 – 2014.” Now, in partnership with luxury crystal company Swarovski, the museum will bring Lee Alexander McQueen’s clothes back to his home city: “London’s where I was brought up. It’s where my heart is and where I get my inspiration,” said McQueen in January 2000.

Set to run from March 14 to July 19, 2015, it will be “the first and largest retrospective of McQueen’s work to be presented in Europe” according to the museum, and follows “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty,” an exhibition organized by the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2011.

The show will span his 1992 MA graduate collection to his unfinished A/W 2010 collection and will be curated by Claire Wilcox, Senior Curator of Fashion, V&A and Professor in Fashion Curation, London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London.

“Savage Beauty is a celebration of the most imaginative and talented designer of our time. Lee was a genius and a true visionary who pushed boundaries, challenged and inspired. He believed in creativity and innovation and his talent was limitless,” commented Sarah Burton, the brand’s current Creative Director.

Tickets went on sale Friday and demand is apparently already running wild.
