Tulle

Tulle fabric is a fine, soft net fabric. It was originally made of silk and was referred to as ‘Silk Tulle,’ but more commonly nowadays it is made from synthetic fibres. Tulle fabric can be recognised by the fact that it is made up of tiny hexagonal mesh and can be stiffened with starch. This fabric is used for a wide variety of applications, such as tutus, veils, bridal gowns, evening gowns, in millinery and as a base for certain types of embroidery and lace. The name ‘Tulle’ originates from the town of Tulle in France, where the fabric was formally made in large quantities.
