Founded by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos in 2007
Half Austrian/ half Italian Peter Pilotto and half Belgian/half Peruvian Christopher De Vos met whilst studying at Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 2000.
Pilotto’s family owned a boutique in Austria selling labels including Azzedine Alaia. De Vos travelled internationally with his parents with his father being in the oil industry.
With their different backgrounds, the two have brought together a love of fashion and clothing with an interest in science and nature.
Pilotto originally launched the brand in 2007 with De Vos working on it part time. De Vos, who was working at Vivienne Westwood, left them in 2008 to work fully on the brand.
Together they developed their design signature with Pilotto focusing on textiles and prints while De Vos concentrated on the silhouette and drape of the garment.
In 2009 the duo was awarded the ‘Best Emerging Talent Award’ at the British Fashion Awards. They have both cited this as their career highlight.
The designers teamed up with iconic bag brand Kipling in 2010 to create a capsule collection. Featuring a cosmic theme, the duo told Vogue “When we started thinking about designing the print for this collection, we thought of an intergalactic traveller, a sort of outerworld nomad who is exploring and discovering”
Peter Pilotto was awarded by the British Fashion Council in 2011 for the ‘Fashion Forward’ award. The pair received sponsorship for two seasons at London Fashion Week for February 2011 and September 2011.
