John Richmond attended Kingston University until 1982. After graduating, Richmond formed his first label, Richmond-Cornejo,  a collaboration with Maria Cornejo. He also started freelance designing for Emporio Armani, Fiorucci and Joseph Tricot.

From 1987 Richmond started working under his own name producing three separate lines John Richmond, Richmond X and Richmond Denim.

In 1995 Richmond approached Saverio Moschillo, an Italian entrepreneur, to finance his business. Agreeing to finance him, Richmond and Moschillo formed a business relationship, which enabled the brand to expand globally and produce collections at Falber Confezioni.

The company now has four single-brand boutiques in Capri, Milan, Paris and Porto Cervo. There are currently plans to open more boutiques worldwide. The product portfolio has also expanded to include eyewear, underwear, beachwear, children’s wear and footwear. Fragrances also launched in 2009.

John Richmond’s style blends street chic with a luxurious precision. Known for his irreverent style, iconic slogans created by the brand have included ‘Destroy, Disorientate, Disorder’ and ‘Eat Cake’. Madonna, Mick Jagger and Annie Lennox have all been dressed by Richmond, whose collections are often influenced by musical movements.
