Paul Costelloe

Paul Costelloe Woman Spring Summer 2017 – The theme of this collection was obvious in the name of the show, ‘The Rejuvenation of Linen’. From the title it could be expected that this was a collection mainly of linen. However, despite the decision to restrict the wide use of a multitude of materials, this catwalk was not lacking. In fact, this collection truly demonstrates the versatility of the brand and Paul Costelloe’s ability to create a fabulous collection whilst facing limits. This emphasis on the material is also a reference to the brands Irish heritage, by using manufacturers from both Britain and Ireland.

In his effort to restore this fabric, Costelloe designed a collection of linen items mainly in white and tan hues. The catwalk was comprised of white dresses with ruffles and high necks, loose-fitting lace up smock dresses, and white military looking jackets with gold buttons. The linen flattered the items; what would usually be sharp lines and rigid shapes were softened by the lightweight, loose linen.

The neutral hues were complimented by subtle injections of colour. There were pink floral silk mini dresses, white culottes were paired with silk blue wrap coats, blue and white plaid shirts were worn with white blazers, and see-through PVC off-shoulder tops were sported with loose-fitting white linen trousers.

The looks were complimented by oversized tan bags, oversized rings, leather double buckled belts and white leather peep toe boots.
