Junya Watanabe

Spring -Summer 2013 – It was a kooky collection from Junya Watanabe and one that evoked a cyber space feel with its out of this world atmosphere. The girls wore silver mosaic headpieces, some taking a foamy aesthetic, others like hedgehog prickles. As for the clothes, they came in a multitude of colours, such as the flamelike red and orange outfit, or the neon lime green, yellow and silver one. At the same time black toned down the extreme palette. The silhouette was streamline, presenting sporty clothing that would make for excellent gym kit, for example, ankle-length trousers and body hugging tops were incredibly functional, as were reworked cycling shorts and mesh tops. Function is the key word here, with bright and lengthy utility coats. Though Watanabe dabbled in asymmetric or ruffled skirts and dresses of varying proportions, primarily it was a collection that told a sporting story with the functional silhouette and not least the practical trainers worn with every outfit.
