年轻却缺乏自信的女航海家(Bette Davis饰)经常被自己的母亲所伤害。她在疗养院静养的过程中，在嫂子的帮助下寻回了自信，逐渐找回了自己。影片从始至终用时尚见证了她的变化。曾为《热情似火》《花都艳舞》设计戏服的礼服设计师Orry Kelly为此片所设计了一件绝美贴身并带有荷叶边的高领礼服，把一个并不高挑并有些丰满的女孩塑造成了一个迷人的女人。
