Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – “Prada Presents: Il Palazzo. A Palace of Role Play.”  Miuccia Prada’s AW 2012 collection epitomized Shakespeare’s words “All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players”. She used actors such as Gary Oldman, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, and Jamie Bell to create in her words “A parody of male power”. And powerful it was, with a theatrical space adorned with an elaborate red carpet, mocking showbiz events and decorating the men in aged military style garments. Long trench coats were the look, teamed with high turtle neck collars and elegant prints, the look of an old smoking jacket, or a cravat, a wealthy man’s wardrobe. Faux fur lined collars and round red sunglasses gave it a fantastical feel, mimicking past roles of the contributing actors. There was an arrogant haughtiness to this collection, performed well by the models reminding us of the satirical element, but the clothes perfected the role, ensuring the need for spectacle in our lives.
