Autumn-Winter 2011/12 – Rick Owens portrays a dark, severe collection for his AW11 menswear. He opens with wrap around heavy black dresses with knee high boots and long sleeved gloves and jackets with hoods. It is almost an undertaker’s style, the dresses looking like aprons, the gloves for protection rather than warmth. Black leather skirts with harem trousers underneath and black polo necks, long black leather jackets with “puffa” necks. Everything is black. He introduces grey, dark brown and white, with fur on collars and apron style wrap arounds. The metal detail on his black jackets, long metal panels around the bottom of one, the arms of another gives an air of the martial arts. His swathes, sashes and wraparound fabrics create a calm sense of danger but for the greater good. A creepy feel with no threat. Strange.
