Antonio Marras Spring Summer 2016

Graceful draping, exquisite detailing, and botanical patterns defined this collection from Antonio Marras. The show opened with a long white dress patterned with a kaleidoscope-like medley of flowers and shapes, with beadwork flowers and what look like overlapping butterfly wings running down from the shoulders.

Elegant shapes in eye-catching floral and leaf patterns dripping with silky fringe, embroidery and silk leaves are defined by wide belts. Layers of sheer made up beautiful full skirts, and fitted wrap bodices interchange with shapeless blouses and look jackets. A sweater comprised of silky fibers added soft texture to a satin skirt paired with a florally embellished striped top. A few pieces patterned with bright red flowers and their golden shadows broke up the otherwise more demure color themes – though do not mistake the collection itself  to be demure in the least. Five white dresses ended the show, pieces made from broderie anglaise detailed in lace, brocade, fringe, embroidery and appliques.

Embellished headpieces made up of flower appliques and beadwork or brocade cutouts added excitement to strictly wrapped braids. Strappy wood-heeled platforms and snakeskin gibsons with white soles were the standout footwear items. Architectural leather bags hung from chain straps with leather handles.
