Scottish Fashion Awards honor Christopher Kane, Amy Macdonald

As in 2013, Christopher Kane and Hayley Scanlan claimed the titles of Scottish Designer of the Year and Young Designer of the Year respectively for 2014. The milliner William Chambers took home the award for Scottish Accessory Designer of the Year.

Scottish singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald was named Fashion Icon of the year, and the award for Scottish Model of the Year went to the young Jean Campbell, who has recently posed for Burberry and Louis Vuitton. The model David Gandy, for his part, was honored with the Founder’s Award.

One of the surprise winners was Simone Rocha. After receiving a British Fashion Award last year, the young English designer was named International Designer of the Year at the SFAs for her Scottish-inspired Fall/Winter 2014 collection. Rocha was chosen over prestigious fellow nominees including Marc by Marc Jacobs, Mulberry, Maison Martin Margiela and Vivienne Westwood. Westwood was nonetheless in the spotlight at the event, which marked her induction into the SFA Hall of Fame.
