Riccardo Tisci designs custom Givenchy tour outfits for Rihanna

One of the world’s biggest pop stars, 25-year-old Rihanna kicked off her ‘Diamonds World Tour’ on Friday with a concert in Buffalo, New York.

To celebrate the tour, Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci has produced a series of outfits for the R&B singer’s shows. “I enjoyed making these looks,” he told Vogue UK. “Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today. She is punk and talented. She offers intelligence, energy and pure beauty.”

According to Givenchy, the costumes are symbols of “female empowerment and urban haute couture elegance.” The opening outfit for the show is made up of a black floor-length cape/gown in silk crepe and black leather thigh-high boots.

Rihanna tweeted an example of one of the other pieces, a Givenchy short-sleeved sweatshirt emblazoned with her own face, exclaiming “Oh Riccardo, you really outdid yourself this time!!!”.

This isn’t the first time Tisci has designed clothes for a musical spectacle. In 2012, Madonna asked the Italian creative to create three Egyptian-style outfits for the singer’s appearance during the Super Bowl’s halftime show.

Rihanna has recently collaborated with the high street fashion chain River Island on her own clothing line, and will unveil a Fall-Winter collection later in the year.
