Raf Simons to Leave Christian Dior

The unexpected announcement of Raf Simon’s imminent departure from Dior was made yesterday, after over three years of successful work at the house.

Simon’s reasons behind leaving are personal according to Dior, the decision being finalized after the company and Simons were unable to agree on a renewed employment contract. Simons himself stated that, “It is after careful and long consideration that I have decided to leave my position as creative director of Christian Dior’s women’s collection. It is a decision based entirely and equally on my desire to focus on other interests in my life, including my own brand, and the passions that drive me outside my work.” Simons went on to express his feeling that it has been an “immense privilege” to have been part of the history of the Christian Dior company, further praising those he worked with and for during his time at Dior.

Raf Simon’s has been an integral part in the recent success of the house – according to a recent exchange between Sidney Toledano and Les Echos, Dior’s revenues have grown 60 percent since 2011.

The individual to succeed Simons as creative director has yet to be announced, though according to Business of Fashion, market sources have reported that the search has already begun.
