Paris fashion film fest to feature work by Weber and von Unwerth

First founded in 2008 by influential fashion blogger Diane Pernet, ASVOFF pulls together directors, designers, filmmakers, musicians, and other fashion luminaries to celebrate all things fashion film.

Around 100 films were selected for this year’s edition and will be screened over the course of the event, interspersed with various talks, performances and installations.

The 2014 theme is based on the ideas of ‘dream and reality’. “Sometimes it’s framed in a confrontational way like dream versus reality, or it emphasizes the gap between the two,” said Pernet. “On the other hand, it can be a story of where dream meets reality or about dream becoming reality. But whatever the approach, fashion and film occupy that space between the two where we can get truly captivating results”.

Some of contemporary culture’s top image makers are part of this year’s line-up, from cult director Alejandro Jodorowsky to fashion photographers Bruce Weber and Ellen von Unwerth. “They know how to challenge us spiritually and intellectually but never forget to give us a feast for the eyes,” explained Pernet of the talent chosen.

Mike Figgis, David LaChapelle have also contributed work, with plenty of stars featuring in the films too including Jessica Chastain, Kirsten Dunst, and Tilda Swinton. Caroline de Maigret, will be this year’s Master of Ceremonies, with other highlights including a Carte Blanche montage by the inspirational Belgian designer Dries van Noten and erotic comic book artist Milo Manara.
