Maiyet Names New Creative Director

Posted on

Artisanal luxury brand Maiyet was launched in 2010 by human rights lawyer and former executive secretary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of South Africa, Paul van Zyl. He has now named its first ever creative director as Declan Kearney – former design director at Alexander Wang, who will from now on be responsible for ready-to-wear, accessories, advertising campaigns and ‘brand imagery’.

Maiyet is a brand that has been most strongly recognisable for its social principles through policies such as sourcing goods and materials from developing countries such as India and Columbia in order to create and develop sustainable business within thee areas, however it is apparent there is now more emphasis on the actual fashion of the brand through the appointment.

Paul van Zyl commented on the matter that ”we are at a crucial juncture” as the brand now holds 34 wholesale accounts and is expected to expand to 60 by the end of the year.
