Gucci artisans heading to New York City

June 6 to 9, Bloomingdale’s on 59th street in New York City will be welcoming craftsmen and women from the label’s ateliers to assemble handbags, personalize silk scarves and monogram leather bags including the popular New Bamboo, Soft Stirrup and Soho bags.

Bloomingdale’s executive vice president Francine Klein was excited by the partnership; the event “will bring this unique and time-honored craftsmanship to customers outside of the house’s own store for the first time,” she explained to WWD.

It’s a growing trend: just this month, French luxury brand Hermès hosted a free “Festival des Métiers” at London’s Saatchi Gallery, which saw the company’s artisans picking apart the secrets of their trade.

The LVMH luxury group will also be opening its doors on June 15 and 16 for the Journées Particulières event, which will allow members of the public to see the skilled processes going on in a range of locations, from the ateliers at Christian Dior to the cognac distilleries of Hennessey.
