Velvetine

Velvetine fabric is a heavyweight, warm fabric which is better suited to winter garments. It is a smooth, silky fabric with a long pile and is constructed using cotton yarns to make the basic woven fabric; silk yarns are then used to create the pile. This is how Velvetine fabric differs from Velveteen, although both use ‘filling’ yarns; yarns that do not necessarily make up the construction of the fabric, Velveteen is usually made entirely of Cotton. Velvetine is used mainly in upholstery and furnishings as it is lustrous and can absorb or reflect light depending on the colour. It also drapes well.
