Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – An air of sweet rebellion was present in a show that marked Vivienne Westwood’s modelling debut, with an excitable use of colour giving many looks their unique beauty.

Westwood’s two modeled outfits were standouts; the first involved the combination of a purple and pink pinstriped bomber jack with matching slit skirt which revealed a green and yellow pant, whilst the second displayed black silk paired with a regal gold embroidery and yellow laces circled around a purple court shoe.

The oversized quality that Westwood wore with ease on her outings was equally apparent in the rest of the collection: check capes tastefully draped off one shoulder, a wrapped olive green coat as well as fussier pieces such as paint-splattered jumpsuits and an extravagantly shawled dress with elaborately cloaked rear.

There was an almost technicolour appeal to the makeup on show, with thick strokes of pink and oranges circled around the eye, and heavy blue and purples placed on the upper and lower sections of the eyelids. Rivalling this in exhibitionism was the garbage-laid hair with wrappers littered around the strands, and white spiked headwear that bolted in all directions, both of which screamed conceptual art.

Theatricality was, as always is the case in any Westwood collection, at the heart of it all, with designs elaborately staged and crafted with an air of eccentricity.
