Autumn-Winter 2012/13 — There has been much hype about the Ralph Lauren show and its easy to see why. With the conglomeration of fabrics, prints, accessories and styles, the collection was all encompassing. The opening outfits were a salute to the traditional British fabric craft as an amalgamation of tweed, Fair Isle and worsted wool made up coats, trousers and suits for a spot of impeccable tailoring. At times tweed was juxtaposed against patterned knits and leopard print coats, while discrete paisley ties were worked with pinstripe suits. Flat-caps, bowler caps and top-hats worn with walking sticks were embodied both masculinity and aristocratic tendencies. Moving forward, lush velvet red and red evening suits hinted at the glamour that was soon to come. Art deco gold gowns, tulle beaded flapper dresses and the black evening gloves carried forward the twenties glamour theme of last season; a gracious way to end a collection based on fine heritage.
