John Galliano Women Spring Summer 2016

If there’s one word that springs to mind when thinking of John Galliano’s SS16 collection, it is ‘sheer’. Each one of his looks incorporated a sheer element to it, whether in the translucent polka dotted tights layered underneath a tuxedo jacket and no pants, or within the tiers of a chiffon dress. The overall effect was sulky, yet sexy, and save for the polka dots, and one shimmering silver gown, most of the ensembles had a moody, dark essence to them. For Galliano, SS16 is all about glamorous grunge.

Models resembled Victorian Gothic dolls as they strode down the catwalk, with ruffled white shirts and dresses also taking centre stage. Galliano created an element of edginess to his looks with his inclusion of flat, pointed, mannish brogues with slashes going through the middle of them. His models were made up to natural perfection, and sequins were scattered amongst the delicate embroidered and lace detailing.
