John Galliano Woman Autumn-Winter 2016 – Military outerwear met with pretty, feminine dresses to simultaneously delight the romantic and tomboy parts of a woman’s fashion personality.
Tailored jackets, in a selection of long and short styles, had a militaristic feel which stemmed from beautiful details. The first look out had elaborate navy beading and the admiral jackets that followed were particularly eye catching with polished buttons and military decorations evoked by handstitched embroidery.
Occasionally these pieces were paired with cropped straight-line trousers that emphasised a mannish silhouette but more often they were layered over sheer skirts and dresses with delicate floral detailing that left the models’ briefs on show.
These delicate slip dresses therefore combined suggestions of ethereal beauty with a striking provocativeness, meaning the sense of movement portrayed in their flowing skirts and the touch of sateen in the collection added energy rather than fragility.
A particular highlight was an edgy ballerina-inspired dress, with shiny silver striped detailing on the dropped waist which flowed out into a layered tulle skirt. Teamed with the high-top flat lace-up boots that also accompanied the other pieces, the look embodied the romantic glamour of the collection which also saw eveningwear get roughened up a notch.
