Stella McCartney Raises Awareness for White Ribbon Campaign

Stella McCartney, known primarily for her skill as a contemporary womenswear designer, has recently designed something different but not unrelated – a little white badge. This badge is part of the White Ribbon Campaign, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness of and end violence against women.

The Kering Foundation has placed these badges in over 800 boutiques belonging to the brands associated with them worldwide, brands such as Gucci, Stella McCartney, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, and more. As the board director of the Kering Foundation, McCartney has put in great effort for this campaign, from designing and distributing the limited-edition badge, to enlisting celebrity friends (and parents, in the case of her father Sir Paul McCartney), and promoting the hashtag #behervoice to raise awareness along with her. Her brand’s Instagram page is filled with the like of Karl Lagerfeld, Léa Seydoux, M.I.A, David Beckham and a plethora of other globally recognized and celebrated icons holding or wearing the badge in support of the cause.

One of the main statistics expressed through the campaign is that “Globally, one in three women are beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in their lifetime”, an alarming statement. In a video for the campaign, McCartney states that “I don’t think people talk about the daily violence that is put on women. I don’t think they talk about it, I don’t think they want to talk about it…What we’re trying to do here is make it something they’re allowed to talk about.”
