LFW: Burberry’s new twist on outerwear

Posted on

This season Bailey decided to reexamine the classic denim jacket, which worked as the lodestone for this youthful, colorful and energetic collection, which was titled ‘The Birds and the Bees’. The structured wasp waist on the denim jackets was paired with skirts made from fat iridescent sequins, and trimmed with shearling. Elsewhere the same shape appeared in a dark green suede, while the brand’s classic trench was reworked in indigo denim with PVC shoulder patches.

Silk organza was another key feature, appearing both pleated or tiered and sometimes both in a series of dresses, many worn with cropped versions of the jackets. Meanwhile footwear was flat and tightly focused on the brightly-colored sneakers and Birkenstock-style cork and rubber soled sandals. Expect to see plenty of both on the street style blogs over the next six months or so, and many more when they hit stores.

Speaking of stores, that’s what Burberry are all about (there’s no show that’s as much about the global shop window), and the brand has continued its Runway Made to Order service for another season. The coats, jackets, bags and nail colors from Monday’s collection can be purchased online from now until September 29.
