Hood By Air Fall/Winter 2015 gets Italy premiere

Minnesota-born, and Trinidad and Brooklyn-raised designer Shayne Oliver is still in his twenties, but his Hood By Air label is going from strength to strength.

Having rounded out a successful 2014 as a CFDA nominee, and the runner-up in the inaugural LVMH Prize, Oliver landed in Florence at Pitti Uomo as one of the schedule highlights, a slightly urban riposte to the fashion fair’s often more sartorial-leaning mainstays.

There were some traditional tailoring touches, but outfits were cut up and twisted versions of the standard suit, with patchworked blues, mustards, blacks and solid blocks of pastel. Models wore platform soles and were prettified with elaborate hooded eyelashes in bright ice white.

Other key touches on the silhouettes included functional pockets, furs, leather and distressed denim, pleated kilts, quilted outerwear, and snapback-inspired hats.
