Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – The underlining theme of New York fashion week was embodied, and thus, perpetuated onto the catwalk via Donna Karan. Always one to evoke what it means to be a woman, in 2012/2013 it means taking charge of the styles that are synonymous with powerful men: suiting. First looks were comprised of variations of the classic pinstripe suit, double-breasted with large lapels or reworked as a topcoat clinched in at the waist worn with skinny suit trousers. Grey pinstripes created dresses while, at times, extra-long blazers fell into trench-coat like category. Feminine flirtations came by way of shiny, sheer skirts fluttering below jackets and suits made entirely from sequins. The dresses had a structural feel, firmly contouring away from the neckline and wrapping round the waist by way of the cummerbund. The predominantly grey and black collection with splashes of red, displayed the perfect way to power dress.
