Oscar de la Renta’s Peter Copping Leaves Role As Creative Director

After less than two years at the fashion house, Peter Copping is set to leave his role as Creative Director at Oscar de la Renta.

Copping has said that he is leaving due to personal circumstances which require him to move back to Europe, leaving the fashion industry in shock at his sudden departure.

Alex Bolen, chief executive at Oscar de la Renta, sent his well wishes for Peter’s future but stressed that the brand would go on without him. He said that « We have always been in the business of creating beautiful clothes, and two of our greatest assets are our design studio and atelier. Our team will continue to work with a keen focus on the level of sophistication and craftsmanship that are the hallmarks of the house. »

Copping was appointed at the fashion house in October 2014 days before the designers death, after previous roles at Nina Ricci and Louis Vuitton.

A replacement is yet to be named but there has been talk that former design team members, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, could return to take over the role. With a combined 18 years at the fashion house, the pair left to establish their own label, Monse, which has gained momentum in the fashion world. After creating Sarah Jessica Parker’s Met Gala look and the likes of Amal Clooney and Selena Gomez sporting their avant-garde designs, the pair joined Carolina Herrera’s design team earlier this year. While Herrera remains at the helm of the  brand, Kim and Garcia’s influence was noticeable in the Resort 2017 collection.

The next Oscar de la Renta collection, for spring 2017, will be designed by the in-house team and is scheduled for the 12th September but Copping hopes to return to New York in the future.
