Maria Grazia Chiuri departs Valentino after 17 years

Today, Valentino confirmed the departure of Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri.

After working for Valentino for 17 years alongside Pierpaolo Piccioli, who is now running solo as creative director, Chiuri has decided to pursue a new path. Rumours hint towards Chiuri being appointed as the new Creative Head for Dior, in replacement of Raf Simons, but Dior are yet to confirm and are expected to do so at the end of the week.

Chiuri stated that, « After 25 years of creative partnership and of professional satisfactions, we gave ourselves the opportunity of continuing our artistic paths in an individual way with the reciprocal desire of further great achievements, » and she didn’t forget to give her thanks to Mr Valentino Garavani and Mr Giammetti for their support over the years too.

If Dior becomes Chiuri’s new venture, it will be a welcome addition to her extensive list of past experiences, as before Valentino, Chiuri and Piccioli worked together as accessories designers at Fendi, giving them 25 years of creative partnership together.

Yesterday, Valentino featured their Fall 2016 couture show, Chiuri’s last for the label, and it is saddening to see the last of the fashion magic these two can make. They have brought financial success for the fashion house, and if the rumours are true, and Chiuri embarks on a new role with Dior, not only with she be their first-ever female creative director, she will hopefully be able to bring some financial benefits for the struggling label.
