British Fashion Council to Award Gucci’s New Creative Director

Among the numerous nominees for the prestigious awards to be given out at this year’s British Fashion Awards, such as Victoria Beckham, J.W. Anderson, Tom Ford and many others, a few names are already guaranteed a prize based on their merits and achievements. Among these few are Karl Lagerfeld, who will be awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award, and Alessandro Michele, the Creative Director for Gucci, who will be presented with the International Designer Award one week from today.

Alessandro Michele took the helm at Gucci earlier this year, surprising many in the industry, admitting himself that he had not been among those in the industry who would generally be assumed a potential successor. His collections have already caused a stir, reinvigorating the Italian fashion house to combine creative balances between contrasting themes of past and present, and young and old. His latest collection presented not too long ago for spring/summer 2016 was vibrant, feminine and luxurious, incorporating a youthful feeling into looks that celebrated the house’s classic style. In an interview with Vogue shortly after taking his position at Gucci, Michele commented that, “when I started the first collection, I was thinking not in terms of fashion but in terms of attitude.”

Though new to Gucci, Michele is not new to the industry – he spent 12 years working for Tom Ford, describing his time there as “a beautiful experience,” though his work at Gucci of late is no doubt what prompted his selection for this prominent award.
