Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – Gucci took a walk on the dark side, combining pale faces and deep red lipstick with a plethora of Gothic outfits courtesy of black fabric and heavy tailoring. It was poetic: a dark romance with rich colouring, renaissance prints via appliqué flowers, and billowy translucent chiffon and lace blouses. The inky glow transcending away from the black created purple, burgundy, navy, forest green and dark olive. Husky velvet smoking jackets, black capes and long sheepskin coats overlay wide genie pants, riding trousers and long skirts with added sass by virtue of a slit back. Black knee-high riding boots tucked into slouch trousers gave new meaning to the pyjama trend, especially with fine tailored jackets. Silk dresses with fading tulips or pale yellow flowers made way for jewelled chiffon evening gowns in dark green or purple. The clothing wove beauty with darkness to create an incredibly moving collection.
