Spring-Summer 2013 – Christopher Bailey aptly titled this show ‘Come rain or shine’, which is really the moto of us Brits and what we live our lives by. Really, if we left it up to the weather we would never get anything done, and the whole collection had that air of carefree nonchalance about it. It combined a sort of sombre austerity the rain may bring with bright metallic trousers or trench coats, something to make you smile. His hand painted prints mixed well with the metallic, juxtaposing something quite natural with synthetic brightness. Burberry is an inherently English brand and they like to keep it patriotic, Bomber jackets featured heavily as outerwear which has a strong connection with our history in military and aviation. There was still the obligatory khaki trenches thrown in among them for its more traditional client, but all in all it was very fresh collection for Burberry.
